Linda B. Buck |
Linda B. Buck (1947), a biologist, has revealed the mechanisms underlying the sense of smell. She shared the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her discovery of the odorant receptors that detect aromas and her insights into how the olfactory system is organized. Buck also explores the relationship between pheromones and instinctive behaviors, the neural basis of innate behaviors and their basic drives, and the genetic basis of aging. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine.
