Mildred Cohn
Mildred Cohn (1913–2009) was a biochemist who made important contributions to the development of nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, the study of metabolic processes, and our understanding of the structure of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is an organic compound that produces energy for many cellular functions, such as muscle contraction and nerve impulses. Cohn was the first female editor of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and the first female president of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She was a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
